Teaching Montessori here going on 3 generations . . .

The little red schoolhouse on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove known as “Children’s House” was established as an accredited Montessori educational facility in 1962 by Kenneth Edelson, editor and publisher of Children’s House Educational Magazine.

Over the last 4 decades of the school’s operation, generations of marvelous young people have crossed the threshold to successful careers as lifelong students passionate in their love of learning.

Founder: Kenneth Edelson 1924—2007

Steadfast in the belief that advancements in early childhood education would become the key to higher achievement and  a better world ultimately, Ken opened the school with the personal support of Maria Montessori’s son Mario, and through a nurturing diligence developed Essex County’s first and most successful Montessori program.

Directress: Margalit Edelson

Margalit has been with the school since the beginning and has carried the scope and vision of Children’s House to where it is today. In the wake of Ken’s passing, she now continues the pre-school and Kindergarten programs and has been courageously expanding the scope of Montessori to new frontiers by pioneering its application to counteract the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
